The Uniontown Community Development Association is a public development authority that was founded in 2001 for the purpose of combating economic deterioration by acquiring vacant, dilapidated buildings and properties in town and renovating them for small businesses to occupy. This mission started in 2002 with the renovation of what is now the Uniontown General Store & Cafe, but was then known as the Sage Bakery. This was such a huge success that Steve and Junette Dahmen donated their historic barn that now bears their name for the purpose of community enrichment. The Dahmen Barn is located on the north end of town, and is well-known for its wheeled fence. With grants, donations, countless volunteer hours, and private lending, the Dahmen Barn was transformed into the beautiful artisan barn it is today. Run by the Artisans of the Dahmen Barn, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit group, it houses artist studios, a commercial kitchen, and a retail shop, and offers art and cooking classes, live concerts, dance hall events, and classes for kids.
UCDA's final project was the Volmer Building, which is home to the Wawawai Canyon Winery. This building was purchased in 2012 with renovations completed several years later. Family owned and operated by the Moffets, the Wawawai Canyon Winery moved into the Volmer building in 2014 and has occupied the space ever since.
